Health officials urge parents to talk to children about social media content
Health officials suggest that parents have a conversation with children about how important it is to take breaks from social media and what content they should avoid.
Parents should ask their kids if they have seen anything in their feeds which made them uncomfortable or scares them. If your child has seen something, they shouldn’t, it’s best to speak with them in an open and age-appropriate way.
Younger kids are going to be more concerned with their own safety or changes that may happen in their own world.
Parents can offer reassurance or they can offer simple explanations of how situations may be different in different places. Officials say parents also need to be mindful of what they’re watching when children are around so they don’t accidentally see or hear something they shouldn’t.
