How to help kids handle the back to school jitters

The dog days of summer go by, the first day of school is quickly approaching.

While some children may be feeling anxious about their return to the classroom, psychologists say that this is very common. Typical signs can include bad sleep and nightmares, or even children expressing unease.

To ease anxiety ahead of school, psychologists recommend parents talk with their kids. Dismissing their worries or ignoring them can make those feelings grow.

If your child continues to struggle with anxiety, doctors say it’s best to seek help from a mental health professional.
