Humidity’s impact on the skin

The hot, sticky summer might be the fountain of youth for your skin.

The increase in humidity this time of year has to do with the temperatures. Warmer air can hold more moisture than colder air.

When humidity levels are low, moisture is stripped from this skin. The leads to the dry, cracked skin and lips you may have noticed in the winter.

When your skin is dehydrated, you also tend to look older. Dry skin exacerbates the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Humid air has the opposite effect on skin. With more moisture in the air, skin is more hydrated.

That allows for more cell turnover – skin cell shedding properly. It gives you a brighter, plumper complexion. Wrinkles and fine lines are also less noticeable with hydrated skin.

However, humidity may not be your friend though if you’re acne prone. It can actually cause more breakouts, congestion and blackheads.
