Parents should practice self-care to alleviate stress
Parents should take time for self-care by reading a book or taking a walk.
It is important for parents to practice self-care in order to alleviate their stress.
Dr. Adam Borland, a psychologist for Cleveland Clinic, said it can be doing something simple such as going for a walk, taking a bath or reading a book.
“This is something that I think is long overdue – the recognition that this has significant consequences. That it’s more than just ‘I’m a parent and I’m stressed and I’m tired.’ You know, this is having real effects on individuals’ day-to-day functioning and it’s cumulative,” he said.
Parents shouldn’t be afraid to ask a friend or family member for help. It’s not a sign of weakness and many times they don’t mind, so don’t assume they will say no.
