PFAS in food packaging being phased out
Cancer-causing chemicals phased out food packaging
Cancer-causing chemicals that were once found in food packaging are now been phased out.
PFAS, commonly found in products such as pizza boxes and microwave popcorn bags, are no longer being used, the FDA said.
Those chemicals are linked to serious health problems like cancer, birth defects and immune system issues. They were used to prevent oils, grease and water from seeping through food packaging.
The FDA said in 2020 food manufacturers still using PFAS planned to eliminate them over the next few years.
