Instead of the same old New Year’s resolutions like working out more or trying to lose weight, people might want to try a social media detox.
You don’t have to give up social media completely for this resolution, according to Dr. Susan Albers, a psychologist with the Cleveland Clinic. Research has found that spending 30 minutes on social media a day can help reduce anxiety, depression and loneliness. However, anything longer than that can have the opposite effect.
For those who lack the self-control to limit themselves, experts suggest considering turning off all notifications on your phone so you’re not getting constant alerts from your social media accounts. You might also want to delete the apps completely to avoid any temptation.
