Marijuana use heighten risks for babies by pregnant mothers

Women who use marijuana during pregnancy may be putting their babies’ health at risk.

Researchers looked at the impact of marijuana on low birth weight, preterm birth, stillbirth and high blood pressure. They found the risk rose by 30% in those who used marijuana while pregnant.

Researchers said marijuana can affect the placenta, which is the source of nutrients and oxygen for the developing fetus.

The study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
