Study: Women see greater benefits from exercise
Women see greater benefits from exercise.
Women tend to see greater benefits from exercise compared with men, according to a new study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
The benefits are not just with aerobic exercise but also with strength training.
Dr. Wael Jaber, a cardiology specialist with the Cleveland Clinic, said the findings show that exercise guidelines should not be a one-size-fits-all. Women benefit more from the same dose of exercise. They said males plateau from the same amount of exercise per week – almost 110 minutes.
“So, they don’t benefit more from the exercise,” he said.
More research needs to be done to understand why women are more likely to see greater benefits with exercise. However, it doesn’t mean men need to change their workout habits.
