Health insurance industry doing well in Capital Region

The Capital Region’s health insurance industry is booming.

Last year, it saw its second-largest annual gain in jobs in more than two decades and grew to record employment.

The industry includes health insurers such as CDPHP, MVP Health Care, Empire Blue Shield of Northeastern New York and Fidelis Care.

The local health insurance industry saw an annual gain of 368 jobs in 2021.

All of these jobs translate into a big economic impact locally.

Employers in this industry paid $671 million in total annual wages and an average annual salary of $100,000.

It also has the third-highest concentration of jobs in this industry, trailing only the Louisville-Jefferson County and Harrisburg-Carlisle metro areas.
