A “pop-up” art gallery is dedicated to bringing awareness and visibility to local artists.

Gallery 5 held its inaugural “Pop-Up with a Purpose: Showcase No. 1.” earlier this month.

It was on view at the Electric City Apartment building’s retail storefront location on State Street in Schenectady.

By hosting pop-up events around Schenectady, Gallery 5 allows artists to showcase their talent, while building a network of potential buyers.

Twenty percent of the purchase price of art sold at the pop-ups will be reinvested back into the nonprofit, and will seed and support future pop-up showcases.

Gallery 5 is already planning a second fall pop-up and a winter pop-up.

The group is on the lookout for volunteers, as well as Schenectady-based and Capital Region artists who would like to be involved in future pop-ups.
