Scientists, regional bank president, late car dealer being inducted into Capital Region hall of fame

Three business leaders will be inducted into the Capital Region Business Hall of Fame later this month.

Three business leaders will be inducted into the Capital Region Business Hall of Fame later this month.

This year’s inductees are the late Bill Lia Sr., Ruth Mahoney and Chet Opalka.

Opalka is the co-founder of Albany Molecular Research, a full-service chemistry services provider for pharmaceutical, biotech and life-sciences industries.

Mahoney is the regional president of NBT Bank. She has 35 years of industry experience, including wealth management, private banking, retail banking and regional leadership.

Lia started his business career as a coat-cutter in New York City’s Garment District. He invested his life savings in 1978, and moved upstate to become a partner in a small Honda dealership. He turned that into a billion-dollar company over the span of 40 years.
