One person was arrested Saturday for allegedly trying to stop a controversial herbicide from being used in Lake George. The herbicide is designed to kill the invasive species milfoil.

Helena Rice was on a personal watercraft in Sheep Meadow Bay and tried to interfere with the application of ProcellaCOR, Lake George Park Commission Executive Director Dave Wick confirmed to NewsChannel 13.

Rice was arrested on numerous Navigation Law violations as well as obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and reckless operation. She was arraigned in Warren County Centralized Arraignment Court and released pending a future court date.

There were no restrictions on drinking, swimming or fishing in the water while it was being applied.

The park commission said that the application went as designed. Water sampling results will be available early next week, and Wick previously said that they expect that the herbicide product will be undetectable within less than three days’ time.

Wick previously said that the native plants will begin to repopulate once the invasive ones are gone in about six weeks.

Opponents of the pesticide had unsuccessfully sued to block the application.
