Wreath laying ceremony honors Martin Van Buren
A wreath laying ceremony was held on Tuesday for former President Martin Van Buren.
This is the 241st birthday of Van Buren, who was born in Kinderhook and was in office from 1837 to 1841. He died in 1862.
Students from Ichabod Crane Elementary School sang “Happy Birthday.”
Military officers since the Lyndon Johnson administration have laid a wreath from the sitting president at the graves of former presidents on their birthdays.
