SELKIRK – An elderly man was taken to Albany Medical Center Tuesday night after driving off a bridge on the Thruway, landing under an overpass. Investigators believe the 84-year-old driver from New Hampshire suffered a medical emergency.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when the driver, who was northbound on the southbound side of the median guardrail, ran out of road and plunged 20 feet between the northbound and southbound bridges that cross over the on ramps at Thruway Exit 22 in Selkirk.

The car landed on its roof.

The driver sustained minor injuries, said police, and no drugs or alcohol were involved.

Traffic was blocked in the area for about an hour.
