Young Saratoga Springs woman loses leukemia battle

A young woman from Saratoga Springs who valiantly and cheerfully fought cancer, has lost the fight.
Olivia Allen, 18, was diagnosed with leukemia last year. She passed away Thursday morning.

Olivia was one of the best young gymnasts in the state as she competed for Saratoga Springs High School.

Through her entire battle, Olivia fought with a smile, always encouraging others to smile with her.

When she was too sick to walk across the stage at her graduation, she had her own graduation ceremony at the Melodies Center at Albany Medical Center.

At 17, she was one of the older patients being treated there and always comforted the younger, scared children.

During a recording of the UpBeat Podcast late last year, at a time when Olivia was feeling much better, she and her mom told NewsChannel 13’s Mark Mulholland about how Olivia had inspired a “Live Like Liv” movement, and how important it was to keep smiling, even when she had suffered a stroke.
