The Israel AME Church in Albany is recognizing people and organizations that are making a positive impact on our community. The church, which was founded in 1828 and is the oldest Black church in Upstate New York, recognized individuals and organizations that are dedicated to helping others.

Honorees were chosen by church leadership in the areas of collaboration, community leadership, and community support.

The awards were given in honor of Harriet Tubman, the famed abolitionist who helped enslaved people gain their freedom through the Underground Railroad.

Kelly’s Angels, the charity that brings needed smiles to Capital Region children who’ve lost a parent to cancer, was among those receiving a Tubman Titan Award. The charity was started by NewsChannel 13’s Mark Mulholland in honor of his wife Kelly, who passed away from cancer.
