Jury finds Albany man guilty in 2022 murder

An Albany man is facing 25 years to life in prison after being convicted of murder.

Willie Green, 41, was found guilty on Thursday of second-degree murder, criminal facilitation and one count of hindering prosecution in the death of Hacief Oliver, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

The trial started on Monday and the jury received the case early Thursday afternoon

Prosecutors said that Green worked together with others to shoot and kill Oliver, 26, in November 2022 on the 300 block of Second Street. A second victim in the shooting was hospitalized with injuries to his abdomen.

The killing was part of an ongoing gang war between members in West Hill and South End, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

Green’s attorney denied that his client was a member of a gang, but acknowledged in his opening statement that Green planned to commit a robbery that day, the paper reported. However, he claims Green did not know that two other passengers in the car he was driving planned to kill Oliver.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 24 at 9:30 a.m.
