Hispanic Heritage Month kicks off

Hispanic Heritage Month kicked off on Friday.

It is a month to celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens who came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and South America.

Sept. 15 is a date when many Latin American countries declared independence.
