A man is being called a hero after he helped dozens of others survive inside a school during the worst of the deadly Buffalo snowstorm – by breaking in and serving them cafeteria food.

It was at the height of the deadliest blizzard in Buffalo’s history.

The mystery began with a handwritten note – an apology for breaking a window at a Cheektowaga School last Friday. The man explained he was with a bunch of elderly people who were stuck and out of fuel.

Police released a surveillance photo of the man – not because he was in any trouble – but to instead highlight his actions to go above and beyond.

He was quickly found and identified as Jay Withey Jr.

In the end, he says he saved 24 lives that day.

No charges will be filed.
