Mother-in-law’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis sparks art project

About six-million Americans have Alzheimer’s and many are being cared for by family members.  It’s a tough job and often, those families don’t reach out for help.

Maryna Bilak is trying to change that. She loves working with her hands. She knew from a young age art would be a part of her life. So she studied it all from charcoals, to sculptures, to paintings.

It wouldn’t be until she attended a school in New York City that the native Ukrainian would learn to not just make art but have a reason for making art – and it would be her mother in law, Dorothy, struggling with Alzheimer’s who would give her that reason.
