Police: Albany woman hit man with shotgun, threw weapon off of building

An Albany woman is accused of hitting someone with an unloaded shotgun and then throwing the gun off a building.

Officers responded to a resident on North Pearl Street near Steuben Street around 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15 for a report of a person with a weapon. They learned Melinda Morrissey, 47, was arguing with a man over relationship issues, police said. She allegedly pointed the gun at him and struck him in the head.

The man had minor injuries.

Morrissey is then accused of going up to the roof and throwing the gun off the top of the building. The weapon landed on a parked car and smashed the windshield, police said.

Morrissey was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, assault and reckless criminal mischief.

She was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court Wednesday morning and released under the supervision of Albany County Probation Services.
