Baylor Scott & White in North Texas is one of the first hospitals in Texas to have full-time companion dogs on staff.

The dogs give unconditional care and affection, along with easing, patients, physicians and staff.

The animals can help medical staff combat burnout.

According to the American Medical Association, the physician burnout rate jumped from 38% in 2020 to 63% last year.

An American Nurses Association survey reported similar numbers, with the burnout rate nearly doubling.
