Survey: Nearly one in five American have online sports betting account

Nearly one in five Americans have an online sports betting account, according to a new survey released on Monday.

A total of 39% of Americans bet on sporting events, according to a survey released by the Siena College Research Institute and St. Bonaventure University’s Jandoli School of Communication.

A total of 93% of online sports bettors said it is fun and exciting, 85% makes them more interested in watching the games, 80% think they can make money and 71% said that they signed up with a free promotion.

In addition, 15% of Americans including 22% of men ages 18 to 49 and 30% of “avid” fans, said they know someone who has or had a problem with online sports betting.
