Troy residents want lead pipes removed faster

Residents urged the Troy City Council on Thursday to move more quickly to replace lead pipes in the city.

Troy was awarded a $13 million grant for that work and around 200 homes have been fixed already.

One resident said it was “horrible” that the city is exposing children to lead.

Mayor Carmella Mantello said she hopes to have all the pipes replaced by the end of her term.

Sen. Chuck Schumer said if more homes need pipes replaced, the city could get additional funding.
