The USDA has approved a bee vaccine in an effort to save the honeybee population. It’s the first vaccine approved for any insect in the United States.

The honeybees are crucial to pollinating crops. In fact, one out of every three bites of food you eat exists because of pollination. That’s fresh produce, nuts and even your cup of coffee.

Honeybees alone pollinate more than 100 types of fruits and vegetables.

However, a bacterial disease called American Foulbrood is destroying bee colonies at alarming rates.

Currently there is no cure for this disease.

Once foulbrood is detected, beekeepers must destroy the hive or use antibiotics – which can have some nasty side effects.

This new bee vaccine is not just important for commercial beekeepers, it could be an absolute gamechanger for all of us.
