The 12-year-old boy who helped save his family from a fire has received a big honor.

Cohen Moos has been appointed honorary junior fire chief of the Warrensburg Fire Company.

Cohen woke up early on the morning of May 17 and smelled smoke in his house. He remembered what he had learned during fire prevention talks at school. He saw that the furnace was on fire. He woke up his mother the rest of the family. He then went outside to the designated meeting place.

“Luckily, the problem was contained to the furnace and was very minor, but if it wasn’t for Cohen’s actions, the outcome could have been a lot worse,” the department wrote on its Facebook page.

Cohen got a new fire company shirt and cap. He also got a ride in a fire engine, making him very happy.
