Sixteen school districts under fiscal stress
Sixteen school districts under fiscal stress
Sixteen school districts were designated as having some form of fiscal stress by the New York State Comptroller’s Office.
Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District in Albany County was designated as being in “moderate fiscal stress” – the second-highest level of stress.
Green Island, Hadley-Luzerne and Kinderhook were classified as “susceptible to fiscal stress” – the lowest designation.
The ranking system evaluates the financial health of school districts and municipalities by using factors such as amount of savings on hand, operating deficits and surpluses and reliance on short-term debt for cash flow.
