Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced $108 million in funding for schools to deal with learning loss caused by the pandemic.

Hochul spoke Thursday at the New York State Education Building downtown Albany to address mental health issues among students.

The pandemic had a serious impact on learning, she said, sharing that kids are behind four to five months on average.

The country is facing a serious mental health problem with its kids, and something needs to be done to address the issue, Hochul said.

Around $100 million of this money will go directly to BOCES to hire more teachers with experience on dealing with learning loss, Hochul said.

She is also hoping to get students greater access to specialized mental health assistance.
