Preventing hot car deaths

Doctors from the Cleveland Clinic want every parent to avoid leaving a child in the backseat of their car this summer.

About 40 children die each year from heatstroke, because they were left inside a car or became trapped inside of it, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

Many of those deaths are the result of a caregiver forgetting to drop the child off at daycare or preschool.

To keep this from happening to you, officials recommend leaving something like your cellphone, shoes or a purse in the backseat.

Leaving something you need as soon as you get out of the vehicle can keep you from forgetting about a child.
