Dr. Carlos Cotto has begun his new job as superintendent of the Schenectady City School District.

It is one of the largest school districts in the Capital Region, and one of the most diverse.

The district has about 9,300 students – with 11 elementary schools, three middle schools and a large high school.

Cotto was chosen to replace Anibal Soler, who left the job after two and a half years for a new position in Yonkers.

NewsChannel 13’s Chris Onorato recently sat down with Soler to talk about the district’s capital project and its future.
