South Colonie Central School District to drop Raiders nickname

South Colonie schools will be phasing out the Raiders nickname.
It is the latest district to announce a mascot name change, in light of the New York State Board of Regents ban on all names and images of school mascots related to indigenous people.
The board of education adopted a resolution to rebrand, phasing out the nickname over the next two years.
The new mascot will be chosen by a committee composed of community members, parents, teachers, coaches, students, building leadership and board of education members.
