Albany: The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Beloved Community March will step off inside the concourse of the Empire State Plaza around 11 a.m. It concludes with a wreath laying ceremony at the Dr. MLK Jr. Memorial in Lincoln Park. CDTA will provide a shuttle bus to transport anyone unable to walk the entire route.
The Center for Law and Justice and the Alice Moore Black Arts & Cultural Center will hold its event at 9:30 a.m. at 135 South Pearl St. It will feature musical performances and an African-American flag raising ceremony. The key speakers will be Ta-Sean C. Murdock, director for the Center for Law and Justice and Mark Bobb Semple, program director for the Alice Moore Black Arts & Cultural Center.
Colonie: Capital District Area Labor Federation will host its 5th Annual Day of Service at the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York (965 Albany-Shaker Rd., Latham NY 12110). Hudson: A Martin Luther King Jr. commemoration will be held at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church at 14 Warren St. It will feature Paulette Adams, pastor of Payne African Methodist Episcopal Church, giving a keynote address. Admission is free.
Saratoga Springs: Dr. King Celebration Weekend will be held from Friday, Jan. 17 through Monday, Jan. 20 in various locations throughout the city. The theme of this year’s event is inspired by a 1967 speech by King entitled “Where Do We Got from Here?” There will be a kickoff party on Friday night from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn. Schenectady: (Schenectady, NY) The Schenectady County Human Rights Commission (SCHRC) will host a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. observance concert at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at the Rotterdam Community Center, located at 705 Curry Road. The theme of the event is Begin with the End in Mind: Building Community Within the County. The program will include live music provided by Albany Voices of Pride, powerful words, and dynamic speakers.
