Kaitlin Cavell teaches social studies at Rensselaer High School. She’s known she’s wanted to be a history teacher since the fourth grade.

Because of her own family history, it was fitting. Cavell is related to a crewman on the Titanic, a former queen of England and a World War I nurse.

Her grandfather was in World War II.

She immediately gets brownie points from her students because of it.

It’s part of what helps her succeed in her mission of making history class fun.

Cavell’s students also love the way she goes above and beyond for them outside the classroom.
