Gov. Hochul is working to make sure monkeypox resources and information are available to New Yorkers, especially to those most vulnerable.
She held a briefing Monday morning after the state reported its first case of monkeypox in a child.
We know the patient is younger than 18 years old and lives outside of New York City, but no further information was provided.
The majority of vaccine supplies have been directed to New York City and its suburbs, which are currently seeing the largest outbreaks.
Now the state is working to make sure the younger population is receiving resources.
The state does not believe school settings will be a main concern of monkeypox transmission at this time. However, Hochul says it’s still important to get the information to those places – especially high schools.
