The Dunn Landfill in Rensselaer is the focus of complaints from local officials and environmentalists.
They’re arguing the original permit process that allowed the landfill to operate was inadequate.
The Department of Environmental Conservation issued that permit and critics say the DEC failed to recognize issues like noise, odor, truck traffic and proximity to schools.
The commission says it has directed the operator to reduce odors and improve operations.
The DEC will continue to monitor the facility.
