September is “Self-Care Awareness Month.”
If you’ve never had a self-care routine, now may be the time to start one.
It can be beneficial for both your physical and mental health.
Dr. Matthew Sacco, a psychologist at Cleveland Clinic, says self-care should be intentional — meaning you should make sure to set time aside in your normal routine for it.
A self-care routine also doesn’t have to be demanding or expensive. Sacco says what matters is it makes you feel good or relaxed.
Going for a walk outside if you enjoy nature, taking a bubble bath, journaling, socializing with friends or meditating, these can all be ways of practicing self-care.
It can also be something physical like working out or eating healthy.
Sacco says self-care is not about being selfish, it’s about taking some much-needed time for yourself, your health, and your overall wellness.
Learn about why Sacco says it really doesn’t have to be complicated by watching the video.
