Hochul announces millions of dollars in public safety funding

Gov. Hochul was in the Capital Region Wednesday morning. She announced the state will invest $50 million in public safety.

It was part of the first in-person division of Criminal Justice Services Symposium in three years.

She highlighted the state’s public safety efforts in front of more than 800 law enforcement and criminal justice leaders.

Hochul says the money help ensure all avenues of the criminal justice system will have the tools and resources needed to keep you safe.

Hochul touted New York’s progress in fighting gun violence.

This new funding is on top of the $227 million already in next year’s budget to support law enforcement and community-based initiatives to combat gun violence and keep New Yorkers safe.

“We always have to stay steps ahead of the criminals. This will help solve crimes, as well as build trust between communities and the police departments,” said Hochul. “I want to make sure that you have the best and the brightest –  the license plates readers, the body cams, the gun shot detection devices, fixed and mobile cameras, robotics, drones, whatever you need to help us with our hot spot policing – which is what really makes a difference when you think about it.”

The governor says this is the state’s largest investment in public safety in a generation.
