Family seeks justice in fatal Albany hit-and-run

A protest on Clinton Ave. demanding justice for an Albany woman took place earlier today.

Tanisha Brathwaite was hit and killed by a vehicle in mid-September on Clinton Avenue and North Swan Street in Albany.

November is right around the corner and there still has not been an arrest.

“Justice for Eshe,” is what the family shouted as cars drove by the intersection where Tanesha was found dead.

More than 50 of her family members rode a bus from Brooklyn to make a bold statement. In unison, they called out Albany police for not making an arrest. 

Her family says on Sept. 14, Brathwaite was walking home from work just after 6:30 p.m. There were several eyewitnesses who confirmed road conditions and visibility were clear, but police say as Brathwaite was crossing Clinton Avenue, a vehicle slammed into her in the middle of the road near North Swan Street and kept going.

When news broke, her family was in disbelief.

Brathwaite’s sister, Tiyarna Brathwaite, shared her grievances with us.

“Before she reached that middle of the street, someone took her life and just left her there hopeless. Everybody out here was seeing my sister on the ground like that,” she said.

Despite multiple eye witnesses and security cameras, the family still does not know who is responsible.

We have reached out to police multiple times regarding this since September, but all that they can tell us at this time is the investigation is still ongoing.
