Surveillance video shows alleged vandalism at Saratoga Springs shop

A Saratoga business owner wants answers. For the second time this year, one of her stores has been targeted in acts of vandalism.

The glass to the door has been completely shattered. The only thing keeping it together is a piece of cardboard.

Business owner Heidi West said she was horrified when she saw the damage to her store.

"I jumped in the car and said, ‘I’ll be right there,’" she said.

The surveillance video shows around 6:30 p.m., a man slammed a sign into West’s store.

She said she’s been in business for over 30 years, and she’s never had to deal with these type of issues so frequently

"Every now and then, every decade or so, we’ll hear about a window that gets smashed, but two of my store windows on the corner of Caroline Street and Broadway have been broken in since the beginning of the year," she said.

Saratoga Springs City Commissioner Jim Montagnino said he recently unveiled a multiphase program that’s intended to get the maximum number of police officers out on the street.

"I know there’s no such thing as a petty larceny when it’s your stuff, and there’s no such thing as a simple assault when it’s yours. So we want to make sure that those incidents are few and far between as possible," he said.

Still, West said incidents like what happened on Thursday night do not sit well with her.

"It’s really a community situation, and we all need to come together to make real change and put our differences aside and figure out how to make a difference here, because I just don’t recognize my hometown anymore," she said.

West said she knows police are working hard. She’s just hoping for some changes soon.
