An Albany bike shop has been inducted into the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry.
Downtube Bicycle Works & Cafe has been in Albany since 1972.
It started with a storefront on Central Avenue. In the 1980s it opened its doors at its current location on Madison Avenue.
It welcomes new, recreational and experienced riders inside its doors.
The shop sells bicycles and gear of every type and style, including road, mountain and electric.
“This well-oiled machine has set itself apart from others because they have a shared love with those patronizing the establishment, and it shows as soon as you walk in the door,” said Albany County Executive Dan McCoy.
Downtube Bicycle Works is open noon to 6 Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
