New Scotland murder suspect in Virginia jail

A motive for the New Scotland killing has not been revealed, but Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple says they have a good breakdown of what happened.

Apple says 40-year-old Jacob Klein was caught Friday evening in Virginia, about 48 hours after the murder of Philip Rabadi.

Two days before, Wednesday, April 13, Rabadi’s wife requested a welfare check for her husband when he didn’t show up to work.

"A check at the residence revealed that the victim was deceased on the garage floor, bound and with multiple stab wounds, and mutilations to his body," Apple said.

The sheriff says within hours they developed a suspect, and with help from multiple agencies they were able to locate the vehicle Klein was using and backtrack all of his movements while he was in Albany.

"Jacob did travel to this area from Virginia with his vehicle and began stalking the victim three days prior to the murder," he said.

Apple says Klein is a licensed physician assistant with ties to the Capital Region and knew the victim’s wife, but would only define their relationship as "past acquaintances." He says she did not know about Klein stalking and is not under investigation.

Apple says investigators worked tirelessly around the clock to get a warrant and make sure Klein would be in custody.

Klein will be arraigned in a federal court Monday, and Apple says they expect him to be moved to Albany sometime this week.
