Public safety measure changes in Saratoga Springs are “urgent” according to Mayor Ron Kim.
The mayor is urging all city residents and stakeholders to be part of the dialogue to fix things in the wake of a violent gun battle on Broadway, early Sunday morning.
It started with two men in a bar. Both stepped into the street, and both had guns.
They fired at each other. Saratoga Springs officers who were nearby show up.
They order the gunman to drop his weapon. He doesn’t.
The officers shoot the gunman, who turns out to be an off-duty sheriff’s deputy from Vermont. Both men are now recovering.
Now the city wants changes, including closing bars at 2 a.m. – not 4 a.m. They’re also talking about metal detectors at the bars. They’re also calling for a special entertainment district, separated from other businesses.
