Thanksgiving is about much more than food for Angela Williams. She’s thankful for the opportunity to help women who are sometimes going through the worst times in their lives.
Williams is the director of the Family Life Center at the City Mission in Schenectady. The women who live there include domestic violence survivors and people in recovery who want a safe place to be.
Williams has also faced her own in life. She says she prayed to God to one day work with those trying to rebuild their lives, and this job has enabled her to do so.
Part of helping them is to do something so basic – cook and share a meal.
“When people don’t have family, they don’t have children, and they don’t have anyone that they’re close to – I think they long for that at Thanksgiving-time,” said Williams.
