State Sen. Jim Tedisco wants to take control of Thruway tolls out of the hands of the Thruway Authority.
This comes after the Thruway Authority announced it wants to charge people more for tolls starting in 2024. The Thruway Authority Board would have to approve that increase. However, Tedisco is proposing legislation that would require any increases to be approved by the New York State Legislature.
The Thruway Authority says the only way the Thruway gets funding is through its tolls, and the money is needed to help update aging roads and bridges.
