Start your engines and break out the glowsticks the Hot Wheels Monster Truck Glow Party is this weekend at MVP Arena in Albany. It’s a monster truck show – in the dark – lighting up the floor. There’s a dance party, laser light show and Hot Wheels toy giveaways. The show is this Saturday and Sunday.

Best Buy, Intel team up to give Guilderland High big tech grant

It’s a big tech grant for Guilderland High School. The school is getting $25,000 from Best Buy, as part of the Intel Retail Edge Program. The program awards stores that sell Intel products with grants for schools. The Best Buy at Crossgates is one of the top 10 locations to receive the maximum tech grant – and the store chose Guilderland High School as the recipient.

Robotics competition at Albany Academies

Albany Academies is hosting a big robotics competition on Saturday. Twenty teams throughout the Capital Region and beyond will compete, showing off their robotics designs. The winners advance to the regional championships put on by First Tech Challenge. The event is free and open to the public.

Catskill Mountain Foundation celebrates 25th anniversary

The Catskill Mountain Foundation – an arts organization – is kicking off its 25th anniversary with music and dance. The group The Missing Element will perform Saturday, January 21 at the Orpheum Performing Arts Center in Tannersville, Greene County.

Congratulations to two Capital Region students

Elise Waller – a senior at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School is already on her way to being a labor and delivery physician. Through Capital Region BOCES, Waller earned a nurse assistant certification, and takes parts in rotations in our local hospitals.

Congratulations to Jiahui “Stella” Li, one of 300 students named in the Regeneron Science Talent Search. The Emma Willard senior won $2,000 for her project on bounding vanishing at the central point of cuspidal newforms.
