When snow begins to fall in the middle of the workday, it can be a real inconvenience for families who have young school children.
NewsChannel 13 was at Rensselaer Junior and Senior High School for their early dismissal at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday.
Rensselaer City Schools are among more than 150 school districts in the Capital Region that wound up making a decision to either close school entirely, or else dismiss students and staff early.
Because of logistics, many schools – including Rensselaer – are implementing early dismissal in waves:
After the 11:45 dismissal at the Jr. and Sr. high school, elementary school students were being dismissed at 12:30.
The decision to close early in this district was made Tuesday by Superintendent Joe Kardash, giving families advanced notice to make plans so that kids wouldn’t be going home to empty, unsupervised homes.
Kardash said when you make a decision ahead of time, it is based on the forecast. In other words, he is at the mercy of our meteorologists.
