Fulton County man killed in snowmobile accident on lake

One man is dead after a snowmobile accident on Peck Lake in Fulton County.

The victim is identified by the sheriff as Todd Wheaton, 42. He was a father. 

This all started around 8:50 Thursday evening, when three friends were snowmobiling on the lake, said the sheriff.

The friends came across a running stream, where they encountered open water. Two of the men went into the water. The third friend was able to help one friend get out. That friend then tried to help Wheaton get out, but was unsuccessful. The two friends went to a nearby business to call 911.

First Responders spent hours trying to locate Wheaton. His body was recovered by the Saratoga Dive Team on Friday morning.

The sheriff is now stressing to everyone, please be safe and stay off the lake.
