Even with over 100 million COVID cases being reported in the United States since 2020, it may come as a surprise to some that we are still learning more about the virus.
In a study published earlier this month, it was found that people with prior COVID infections had a 24% increased risk for higher cholesterol levels, than those who were not infected with COVID.
The majority of participants in this study were white men in their 60s.
A second study published in late December had similar findings, but with a much younger test group.
Researchers compared the cholesterol of 177 members of the Swiss military who had COVID, with 251 others who never had COVID, finding that those with prior infections had higher cholesterol levels.
Officials added that these studies revolve around COVID cases from 2020, a time when people were less active. However, doctors still believe that it’s something we should track closer.
