Friend’s father: Kaylin was ‘wonderful, sweet and thoughtful’

Eric Whiting’s daughter was in the same car as Kaylin Gillis, when Gillis was fatally shot on Saturday evening.

Whiting says he’s declining all interviews for himself and his daughter – whose name he does not want public – because he does not want her to have to relive all of this.

Whiting says he also does not want to disturb the Gillis family – because they have enough to deal with.
Gillis was in the car with her boyfriend, Blake Walsh, Whiting’s daughter, and another friend.

NewsChannel 13 is told the boyfriend was driving the car and he pulled into the wrong driveway by mistake.

Police say the suspect, Kevin Monahan, was on the porch and started firing as they pulled away. One bullet killed Gillis.

Whiting sent a statement about Kaylin Gillis earlier this week. It reads:

“Kaylin was a wonderful, sweet and thoughtful soul with a giving nature and artistic talent.”
