Ten jurors are now seated in the Schoharie limo trial – up from seven when the day started. Twelve jurors and four alternates are needed.
Thursday marked day four in the jury selection process.
It has been slow, mainly because it’s difficult to find people in Schoharie County who haven’t heard about this case or people who haven’t been following it closely.
Nauman Hussain, 33, is on trial, charged with second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.
Hussain operated the limousine company that rented out a stretch limo that crashed in Schoharie County back on October 6, 2018, killing 20 people.
Hussain initially pleaded guilty to 20 felonies that required no prison time.
Judge Peter Lynch – who replaced the retired judge who signed off on that plea deal – ripped up that agreement.
A state appellate court ruled that Lynch had within his discretion the right to reject the initial agreement.
Hussain withdrew his guilty plea. That’s why there is a trial beginning this week.
